Park Slope’s Object Image Gallery
presents the work of twelve artists and photographers whose works
explore Brooklyn’s fast changing landscape. “The art in the show”
according to gallery director Bob Weiss, “not only deals with the
rapid visual changes occurring in Brooklyn. The artists also capture
many of the intangibles that make Brooklyn unique.”
The paintings of Vincent Pinto and David Egolf depict storefronts,
OTB’s, meat markets, or barber shops that no longer exist. Tom
Russotti’s color photographs demonstrate the visual richness of
Brooklyn’s homemade business signs and bodega storefronts. The oil
paintings of Thomas Hagen document the changing Red Hook waterfront
while Tom Keough does the same for the Midwood area.
Robert Weiss has painted the Brooklyn landscape for over thirty
years and exhibits views of the Gowanus Canal and Atlantic Yards
area. The on site drawings of Warren Beishir show areas that will be
greatly affected by the arena development. Jonas Mlenak’s photo
realist paintings show the changing face of Coney Island, as does
Roman Scott’s surreal painting of the defunct Thunder Bolt Roller
Coaster. Photos by Fred Becker of the members of the 1979 Prospect
Park Golden Age Center and Yasmine Soiffer’s photos of Coney Island
beach goers show the timeless quality of the people of Brooklyn.
Statements by each artist will be exhibited with the art.
